Shoes Of The Season

I just love the way how US media outlets, in their coverage of the shoe incident, have to explain (in a very National Geographic tone) that throwing shoes at someone is considered a form of insult in the Arab world.

Really? Why? Is throwing shoes at somebody in the US considered a term of endearment?

Yes, but when was the last time you heard of a white American or a Swede or a Bolivian or a Japenese throwing their shoe at someone.
Maybe because in other cultures, it's unheard of?
Is it better that in every report out there, it's re-inforced that Muntazar wanted to hurl the gravest of insults at Bush?
Is that how much free time that we have, to complain that the media is describing Muntazar's insult as the gravest insult possible?
